Hi Christine,
You need to copy URL of the image (right click on any image on the web and copy URL), then paste it here enclosed in
[ img ] tag, like I did below. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the compliments.  I have been at this online sale business for 2 years, and I still overwhelmed.  I keep learning and adding.

Caralyn, thanks for the feedback.  I've been working on my photos for a while, and need to do more work.  It's never ending, I think.

I learnt a lot by looking at other shops.  Especially by looking at shops that appealed to me.  When I saw photos I liked, I really studied them and analyzed what it was about them that drew me in.  Having done that a lot, I came up with a list of criteria for my own photos.

And I'm still learning about this online selling stuff every day.  We are so lucky to have these bootcamps here.  I love the format of assignments.  To me, there is no better way to learn than by doing.  We get some info, we try it out, we share our results and ask questions and learn more.  Very valuable.

Thank you Caralyn!  Photographing one's work well is always a challenge!  It's an ongoing learning process, that for sure.  I still don't understand SEO and keywords, and usually can't find myself through google either, so you are not alone.

Petite Tuques - 2-3 years Winter Tuque Set

<img>https://icraftgifts.com/files/product_photo/medium/product_photo_medium_8fe8384c1ae1f39846ff7c5a11560ca9.jpg </img>

For this one I'm shopping for my son 2 years old for next winter. I love neutral colors and I like a touch of blue to bring out the color of his eyes.

boys knit hat 2400 (which is how I would begin my replacement)
kids winter hats and gloves 170
childrens winter hat 880
handmade knit hat 390

ok.. I'm going to try and come back and do another two items from other shops.

Question: I see a couple of other shops have selected my 'Mug Huggers' as their item. The term travel mug keeps coming up, would that be a logical tag for it? Seeing as its for your at home mug... Wouldn't that just create a high bounce rate?

I'm loving what I'm learning here, and although I haven't touched old listings yet, I've noticed already an increase in traffic.

I also was interested in the copy/paste from listings from other venues.. I'm starting to change it up a little from each place. How does cloning affect our listings? Should we always build from scratch or is this ok as long as the Title/Description and keywords are changed?

I was a bit confused with this assignment. Which terms were we supposed to use in the keyword tool? I used the titles of the items I picked, but often the "best" word (i.e., lowest number) had nothing to do with the actual product.

First I went with this lovely tuque (which, by the way, I thought was spelled "toque", but I think that's the French word, correct?). My son wouldn't fit in these great hats, but I did find a beautiful one for ladies. (And many thanks to Petite Tuques for selecting my purple earrings!)

Result:
crochet toques 260
(#1 was "costume spiderman", go figure)

Next, I checked out Brilliant Beads and was instantly drawn to these earrings:

Result:
borosilicate lampwork beads 36

Lastly, I chose this super-cute Panda bear t-shirt:

Result:
No data. I think it might be better to add "bear" in the title; there were irrelevant results without it.
("panda bear apparel" = 46)

So not sure if this is what the point was; any thoughts/advice/guidance appreciated.

Caralyn,

Thanks so much for your kind words...photographing product is still a challenge for me, and I'm slowly getting the hang of my photoediting software (I use Corel PaintShop Pro X).

It's so funny, I think my keywords are not very good, and I spent a considerable amount of time yesterday working with the Google tool and making Excel lists to edit my listings with.

Christine,

Your point about using "lampwork" is very well taken...it probably has more impact on a jewellery designer or glass artist than on the lay public who are shopping.

I realize that I don't think like a shopper easily...gotta learn this skill.  Funny how we get in our own "rut"...

...plugging away at the assignment again today...have a good one!

Gillian, I'm having the same problem.  I think a big part of the challenge is that we are so knowledgeable about our craft and the materials that we use that we aren't really in touch with what the average shopper knows.  And then the challenge is that if we go so broad/general with our keywords, then we are buried under millions of listings...

Christine, maybe we should have an assignment where we get a friend/family member who doesn't do our craft replacement for some of our items and record what kinds of words they use to replacement for our stuff.

This SEO thing is hard, but I'm not giving up.   Wink

OK, here goes....

1. https://icraftgifts.com/handmade/4265/golden-yellow-topaz-pendant.php (Title: Topaz in Silver) by Caralyn Forstar

I replacemented Google.ca and it didn't come up on the first 10 pages.
I noticed that neither the title nor the tags indicate that it is a pendant, so I tried that in a replacement..."Topaz in Silver Pendant"
...still nothing in the first 10 pages

There are also really a lot of blue topaz pendants, and this is a beautiful yellow topaz stone, so I tried to think like a shopper

...here are some keywords that came up from my replacement for "Yellow Topaz Pendant"

Yellow Topaz Pendant
          -average advertiser competition
-local replacement volume ...not enough data
          -global replacement volume ...5400

Yellow Topaz Pendants
          -average advertiser competition
-local replacement volume ...not enough data
          -global replacement volume ...500

I really like the wire wrapping but probably as a customer wouldn't be replacementing for wire-wrapped pendant...I'd just like it when I saw it.

Caralyn, try changing your title to: Yellow Topaz Pendant Wrapped in Sterling Silver and some keywords with yellow topaz and topaz pendant...see what happens when the Google bot crawls next time

Julie and Gillian, I too have a difficult time thinking like a customer when it comes to keywords.  I find that even when I am replacementing for something I want to purchase for myself, that I don't seem to use "normal" keywords.  I think I am going to ask some friends, family and customers to help me out.  I will give them a photo of one of my products and ask them what words they would use to replacement for it.

Hey I think you guys are getting it!  Smiley

It does take practice!  Asking family and friends for replacement words is a good idea. Too often we are too close to our own product to know how people would replacement for it.

You could always post a pic  of it in the forum and we can all pitch in to help out.

Cheers

Christine

#1 How about "red pierced earrings"  720
#2 How about lavender eye pillows 880
#3 How about Crochet iphone case 170 or cover 58 or handmade iphone case 720

Hi Weezi!

Good, I am glad that you have found how to check for key words. And, no worries about being late... better late than never Smiley

The only problem is that most of your selections have too much competition.  We want to find words used by a buyer replacementing for the product but we want to balance it with terms that are not so competitive so that we can come out at the top or near the top of the google replacement.

Once we have our main keywords we can still add a colour ... example.... Crochet iphone cover in blue wool" or something like that.  The main keywords should be at the beginning or very close to the beginning of the title, as well as in the description (and several times more in the body of the description).

Doing it this way, you are more likely to be on the first page of a Google replacement for the 170 people in March/2010  that looked for a "crochet iphone case".

Does that make sense?

Cheers
Christine
