Hi All, I asked Admin if they could include wire wrap as a category under jewelry, they asked me to put it out to the community as a question, add wire wrap category or not? Thanks, Caralyn

Right now the categories under jewelry are for type of item, not for medium used.  So they have necklaces, watches, rings, etc.  If they added wire wrap as a category, then they would also need to add metalwork, beadwork, lampwork glass, etc.

I'm not sure that buyers would be shopping by medium first.  They probably know if they want a bracelet, a necklace or earrings.  If someone is interested in wire wrap or metalwork, they could put that in the keywords field, which if you have in your tags, would be picked up.

If you compare to etsy or other sites, you will see they have necklaces, rings, etc. as subcategories for jewelry.  You only get wire wrapped as a sub-sub-category.

I don't think that wire wrap (or metalwork, etc.) need to be added as a category under jewelry.  As icraft grows and eventually has tons of items, then sub sub categories may be required, which is where wire wrap would fit.

Just my $0.02...

I agree, I would shop by piece first, as a buyer.  I might further divide that piece by keyword material - like bead, or polymer clay or wire wrap.  So, I'd say just make sure it's in your tags is all.

For right now, I guess it's okay. I sometimes shop by colors when I look for something specific to go with other things I have to coordinate with. Silver, gold, black, pink, red, blue, green... I'm sure we'll have more sub categories when the site gets busier.
