[Dancing Monkey Jewelry]

My name is Martha Hughes.  After a couple of tries at a couple of local arts and crafts shows, I've decided to try my luck in selling my jewelry on line.

I create one of a kind and limited edition hand-crafted jewelry.  Some of my favorite materials are sterling and fine silver, semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls and Precious Metal Clay.  I like to describe my jewelry as organic and funky but elegant.  My favorite stones are Chalcedony, Aquamarine, Peridot, Citrine and Blue Opal.

I'm a fine art photographer from Alberta, Canada. I have been online for many years, but just started to sell my prints online last year. My main focus is exhibitions and gallery shows, which is keeping my very busy right now so I haven't got a lot posted here yet. Hello Lyra:

Thanks for the compliment regarding my earrings.  I plan to post more of my work - however - I need to take more photos.  I like to take my pictures in the daytime - so at this time of year that leaves only the weekends to take pictures.  Also, I spend hours taking shots of my jewelry and only end up with maybe 3 or 4 shots that I'm happy with.  The photography part wasn't something that I had considered when I decided to do this.  I mean, how hard can it be to take pictures of something that just lays there?  Well...that question has been answered for me.

yes... that must be frustrating. i never really considered that before either... they look really nice though!

maybe someone else has tips about the best ways to display jewelry.. actually, it could make for a great article..

maybe photographers would have some helpful insight about this... i'll look into it

and in the meantime, good luck with the photo shoots! haha, and who knows? maybe photography will become a new hobby

I've had a rather steep learning curve with my photography and I'm proud to say I've improve dramatically.  Then again, I've shot well over 2000 pictures and have discovered several things that have helped - 1) take pictures in the morning - the light is best at that time.  2) Find a back drop that works best for you - I use a white vellum type paper as a background. 3) Wear the right glasses - you'd be surprised how much easier it is with the right pair.  

I'm still learning so I'm sure I'll figure out more as I go along.
