Handmade Store: Silver Workshop

Welcome to The Silver Workshop where you'll find handmade silver jewellery. All of my charms, bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings are designed and lovingly made in Canada.

I'm Andree and I love working with metal. I've been making sterling silver jewellery for several years as a hobby and recently decided to drop everything and go back to school full time to pursue my passion. I'm now a student of the Jewellery Arts program at George Brown College in Toronto.

My love for making jewellery came out of many years of sculpting in clay. I've always enjoyed sculpting in small scale but was never quite satisfied with the material I worked with. I longed for something more durable. I eventually discovered Art Clay Silver and Precious Metal Clay (both clays get heated and result in fine silver) and soon decided to expand my horizons by taking classes to learn how to make sterling silver jewellery. I was officially hooked!

Many items in my store have been first hand carved out of wax and then cast in sterling silver. Such pieces, like the rabbit necklace or the apple pendant, are then finished by hand to a beautiful satin finish or to a mirror-like polish. Oxidation is also sometimes used at the end of the process to darken the sterling silver and help bring out the sculptural details. Another silver jewellery-making technique used is fabrication (sawing, filing and soldering sterling silver sheet, wire or tubing) to create new pieces from scratch, embellishments and settings for stones.
