Thanks for doing this bootcamp again!  I thought about doing the first one and got too nervous.  I have been making jewelry for about 2 years to the day, and have sold among friends and at a few home shows, but am really looking for a kick on getting online...I graduated in Business and work in Corporate America everyday, so you'd think the business aspect of this would be easy for me, but I feel like there is so much to consider that it gets overwhelming and I do nothing!

I already had my business cards created, but I joined twitter today which was cool.

I'm looking forward to this next month - thanks again!

Hi! I'm new to this Bootcamp, so I hope I'm going to be doing this correctly Smiley

Wow, that was an awesome 1st day list of things to do... Here's what I have so far:

1) I already had just my main portal link  in my Outlook Email (I have a splash page that redirects traffic to my own website, my blog and my Etsy shop, which are my main selling venues at the moment.

I edited that signature to add in my iCraft shop, as well as my other selling venues (Ruby Lane, Artfire) under a "Shop with me at your favorite online venue", as well as links to my Twitter and Facebook fanpage. Long signature, but it helps to get the word out.

2) I listed my main website (could not list the iCraft shop unfortunately) on an Alberta Business Directory, because they require 'reciprocal links' and they need the URL of where you put that link back to them on your site and that's not possible to do this here. So I had to use my own website to list on there. It's free and it's pending approval, so we'll see what happens.

I was wondering if we're allowed to list on local Craiglist? Not sure under what category however... I looked under small bus. listings but it doesn't look like I could belong in that section and the jewelry section is mainly for people selling off jewelry they don't wear anymore, not for a 'shop' advertising.

3) I already have a twitter account and I use it a lot: @canadianrockies - follow me if you'd like Smiley

4) I use Vistaprint.ca (not .com) for my business cards and I have plenty on hand, so I'm all set with that Smiley

5) Gonna have to think about these great questions.

6) I'm reporting here on what happened so far Smiley

LOVE IT!

Cheers,
Nathalie in Calgary Smiley

Hey Twiddlebeads!

So glad you are on board.

I have to laugh when I see others "get overwhelmed and do nothing".  It's called diddling of which I am a master so we all have much in common here. I just blogged about diddling Smiley and how Bootcamp will pull us out of it.

That's ok.  At least we are all keeners and we want our business to grow.

I would love for any followers to sign up and leave a comment on my post and.... anyone else, from today on, that has blogged leave a link here so that we can all follow you and leave comments.  That builds SEO!

Hey CanadianRockiesArt!

That's an impressive list of accomplishments on your first day of Bootcamp.

Good thinking about getting your shop on that Alberta Directory and yes yes yes list on Craig's List in your local area.  we will be doing that also and some sellers did get sales from their Crags list views.  I think you have to be a little low key in your "shop promo" .  It seemed that there was more flexibility in some other areas than in other.  I would leave my email as pillowthrowdecor (at) gmail (dot) com and talked about my online store but no links. It didn't seem to be a problem.

Everyone Please post links to your blogs and twitter, etc so it makes it easy to link to you as we are reading from you!

How exciting to see you are from Calgary Canada! Yayyyyy!  Happy Canada Day.

Cheers

Wow, I didn't realise that this was on twitter feed... cool.... and I used a title this time to my post Smiley

I upgraded my iCraft account to have up to 50 items in my shop. I'm uploading 5 for now and will upload new things throughout the coming week or two.

My twitter:

Back to listing then work in my studio! (got a wholesale order confirmed today and a custom sale too, me happy!)

Got started late in the day but fixed my email siggy and tweaked twitter. Alas Twitter will not let me open an account in my shop name. It is too long - Impawsible To Resist. I did not like impawsibletores. Then I remembered that was why i used impaws instead.

I definitely want to do something about the look of my shop. I want a more dynamic WOW factor banner. Doing the best I can with photos and scans.

Does anyone else have trouble with reds? (see my red arm warmers).

How many items can I make and list in the next 28 days? Depends on what I make perhaps 10.

How many sales do I want  150

May add leg warmers, note cards, tags, miniatures and dolls.

Buyer is an adult of either sex, any occ. any age.

Sometimes I want to tweak everything, others leave it all alone.

Network procratination? I tweet, I blog, I don't know.

Admire - oh yes, From Japan with Love on Etsy - she has a special niche and 1000s of sales.

Hi all!
Happy Canada Day!

I updated my profile page to take down the indie smiles promo.
I am going to log into my email and add the signatures.
I have biz cards already & have them and sample lip balms in my purse pretty much at all times.

Going throught the list of Questions & giving it a good "think" ~ looking at my "real life" schedule and seeing how it can all fit in.  I would defintately like to add some balms, salves, scrubs and lotion bars/sticks to my store.

I also want to think about getting my own website up and running, and getting a more colorful avatar & banner up too.  Not sure how quick that's going to happen, but its in the works.

Taking it easy today - lots of stuff to do at home.

Oh, and on a personal level, I bought some "sleeper" earrings from the drugstore and put them in today.  I've had pierced ears since I was in the 2nd grade but haven't worn earrings for over 10 years.  I've been drooling over all the beautiful jewelry on this site and i'm getting my ears ready for some sparklys!  Thank you for the inspiration!!

Whew! This has been a day - but I have made a commitment to do better this second time around.

I added my twitter account - http://www.twitter.com/tryshz
to my signature on my Thunderbird email (I use that instead of Outlook etc.) I already had my blog and my iCraft shop on it.  My blog is http:// http://trish-studio214.blogspot.com
and my iCraft shop is at  https://icraftgifts.com/trish

Don't know why the links aren't working - too tired to figure out what I'm doing wrong ...sigh

Didn't yet put my ad in a free classified (I KNEW I forgot something!) - but I have klipperclassifieds.com in my browser - so that will be done shortly.

Didn't open a twitter account in my shop name - am afraid I'll not keep up. Thinking about it tho.

I have my business cards - I got them from Vista - and they really did only cost me $5.27! They have a Vista ad on the back, but right now - the low cost made it possible - so that's ok.

I actually did answer the questions - advantage of getting up really early and taking time first thing! So....here they are:
How many items can you reasonably produce and list in the next 28 days?
   One per day

How many sales would you like to make in the next 28 days?
   One per day

What products would you like to introduce or eliminate from your product line?
Introduce new things – wire, beach glass, using stash
   Eliminate things with least views

To whom will your products appeal to? Describe your buyer (male, female, age, profession, etc)
I see my buyer as a female – working gals to retired –     who Likes nice jewelry but not flashy or large.             Someone who appreciates handmade quality

What areas do you need to tweak in your shop? (pictures, bio, policies, shipping, descriptions, etc)
Definitely tweak the pictures – most need re-doing
Re-do some of the scans as photos
Tweak the shipping and other policies

What networking activities have you been procrastinating but really want to start? (blog, .com,twitter)
I have a new website – but haven’t really got it ready
yet. Want to do so – as I think that is a necessary
thing, having complete control over what I do with it.

Is there a seller/shop out there that you wish you could be like? Or admire? Why?
Admire Linda Galleria – the photos are beautiful –
and the descriptions are too – she has much more
experience, so would like to emulate her.

I also added a new product to my iCraft shop, and to Zibbet, and to byhand.me  Why is it that every site has different size requirements for pictures? Had to make three different sizes...lol! But - it's done....YAY!

Enough rambling for now.....Trish signing off...

Hi everyone! Happy Canada Day!
I had a busy day going out and then company for dinner.
So I did answer the questions:
1 Produce 8 new pieces of jewelry
2 two sales
3 turquoise pendant necklaces
4 women 16-40 and men buying for women
5 rework photos on some products that need tweeking
6 blog more often on mycraftivity
7 I admire Christine and Linda they seem to have this selling thing together
8 will have to check out Klipper when I have more time

I couldn't figure out how to add my signature to my email. I use Thunderbird. Maybe someone who has figured it out can walk me through it step by step.

I have lots of business cards and discount cards that I send out with a purchase. I got that discount card idea from Nancy Wallis.

I think that's enough for today
I'm very happy to be participating in Bootcamp#2 right at the start!

Checked out klipperclassifieds and posted an ad. Linda, I don't know, it doesn't seem particularly eye-catching or user-friendly, but you never know! Thanks for the link.

Trish and Deb, thank you so much for your kind words. You are very kind!

Zs - thanks for the feedback on klipper. I haven't yet done that but will tomorrow.

I have not been able to start bootcamp and will not be able to do anything until tomorrow. My day job has been uber busy, as we have a short week this week with Friday off for July 4th/Independence Day holiday being on Saturday.

I am keeping up with posts, though and I am IMPRESSED with all of you! Christine's questions are excellent and thoughtful and am chewing on them.

Have a great day today with much success.

Was busy with Canada Day activities yesterday, so didn't get a chance to post here...

I already have signatures in my email accounts
    I have business cards
I have a twitter account - but I don't use it - having difficulty enjoying that one

I spent some time thinking about my goals:

My overall goal is to find a way to find a balance and be able to spend some time creating and some time promoting regularly.  I find that I tend to do one or the other for a spell, and I would like to do both.  This is in addition to my full time job.

I also want to improve my facebook fan page, and have it become more dynamic and active.  I have some fans, but I want the page to be fun, so that people want to come check it out.

Some of my photos and descriptions need tweaking, so also want to work on that.

I didn't have the time to check out the local business listings yesterday, so will do that today.

Off to go look at today's assignment...

I forgot that Boot Camp started yesterday.

But I didn't forget about my iCraft Exhibit, as I took advantage of upgrading my account, and I listed item number 6 in my Exhibit.

I have a rash of things to think about and do, tasks from Day 1 and Day 2, and because I'm going away tonight and won't have internet access until Sunday, I will have to catch up on Day 3!

This is what I remember so far:

Cragislist:  the thought of putting my name on Craigs List intimidates me.  But, I will check it out, as I want sales!

Items per day:  I can reasonably produce and photograph (sunshine permitting) two pieces of jewelry per day.

I would love to sell one item per day, but frankly, I would be happy to sell 2 pieces every 7 days.

I am already on Twitter:  emmsgems  follow me!

I have business cards and my husbands, my closest friend, my dad, my mom, and my sister all carry them as well, but the better question is:  Do they hand them out?

I am always tweaking my photos, and would love some feeback!

I need to check out this klipper business.

I have a blog, and I am trying to keep it up to date (ie. post every three days)   http://emmsgems.blogspot.com/

If I can return to Boot Camp later today I will, other than this, I will be back and ready to go on Monday!

Ok...I wrote down the step by step instructions to do this for Debra, and anyone else using Thunderbird email, but this forum will not take my post. Keeps saying "Bad request" - maybe I shoudn't put code in here.

So...it's in a Word file - and I don't know how to get it to people or on here.

Any enlightenment would be wonderful!

OK, I am starting to start...lol!

1) Add your automatic icraft store signature, your twitter address, your blog address to every email in Outlook or Outlook express.
It is all over the place! Because I do have a web site, I use that as my promo target in general to funnel traffic to my shop.
2) List your store in a free local store/business directory.
I have a great one for Central Florida and I particpate in. I say "participate" because they are very active in social networking, as well as the actual directory.
3) Open a twitter account using your shop name.
    Have a Twitter for GalleriaLinda.
Opened a Twitter for my IndieCEO business blog
Opened a Twitter for my own name / marketing biz
All three cross promote my URLs!
    Joined the iCraft Twibe
4) Get your business cards ready. Order some. Get some. Make some.
Here is where I falter. I NEED to order printed ones. Have been doing some on the color printer at home and they look sorta OK, but need to design and get printed. *puts on list*
5) Bootcamp Goals - Spend some time thinking and writing down answers for the following questions.
How many items can you reasonably produce and list in the next 28 days?
    With working full time, probably5-8
How many sales would you like to make in the next 28 days?
Since I work full time and my promotional time is limited, realistically, if I got 3 sales in the month I would be doing the happy dance!
What products would you like to introduce or eliminate from your product line?
Not sure....poindering. I do have non-precious metal jewelry that I want to move.
To whom will your products appeal to? Describe your buyer (male, female, age, profession, etc)
Career female, 35 to upper baby boomer, some disposeable income and will treat herself for a work wardrobe, likes modern, sleek, and simple designs in wardrobe and jewelry, likes color and is not afraid of it, does not mind standing out in the crowd with simplicity.
What areas do you need to tweak in your shop? (pictures, bio, policies, shipping, descriptions, etc)
Photos, policies, descriptions, policy summary in listings, shipping, well...all of it. :-P
What networking activities have you been procrastinating but really want to start? (blog, .com,twitter)
Bookmarking, such as Digg, Technorati, Stumbleupon, Kaboodle, etc...
Is there a seller/shop out there that you wish you could be like? Or admire? Why?

    https://icraftgifts.com/distinque
Great photos that are compatible and complimentary to each other
    Great variety of prices
Great variety of jewelry types - you can find items for young adults, career women, evening wear, etc...
    And, she is making sales!

Christine

If anything, you can prepare a full signature with all your links and save that in a document (Word file, Notepad, etc) on your desktop, and then whenever you send a message in Gmail, you can just copy-paste the signature into your Gmail message.

That would be one way of doing it, if there's no way to save a draft in Gmail or a signature file.

You can also send yourself the file, or make a new Gmail message, just put in your signature with all your links in it (and put in the title something like "Signature File", and send it to yourself. File the message in a Gmail "folder" if you can create folders (I don't use Gmail so I'm not sure) and that way, if you're not at your home computer, you can still send out messages and copy-paste that signature by retrieving it from your Gmail Signature folder, etc...

    Hope this helps a bit,
    Cheers,

Hi, I have Gmail! It's easy. On the main page, go to the top right and click Settings. Scroll down that page till you see "Signature".

Let me know if that doesn't make sense-- I think there are different versions of the Gmail main page. But it should work! Cheesy

    Hi all, ...

have cards from vistaprint.com and is there a difference with the vistaprint.ca ? it looked like they had basically the same patterns, I like their cards , my first set came within a week without the extra shipping, I used the sunflower, very cheerful and easy to read.

I am going to carry on and make a a craigs list ad

Thanks christine for hosting BC2   ; )  Laura

Some people have problems with Vistaprint.COM because they end up getting charged for other things on their order or they get roped into regular billings or get charged more than once for their order, etc. A lot of people complain about this. Read many scary stories in the Etsy forums on that topic.

It's not an issue at all with Vistaprint.CA - Been using it for many years along with my husband, so if you're in Canada, might be best for you to use .CA and not .COM

    Cheers,
    Nathalie

thanks Nathalie, I noticed when I checked out on my order they "marketed" heavily until you finished the order, which was annoying , I can see where you might end up with extras you would n't want, thanks I will check into .ca if they sell to the US , many thanks for the info Laura

well another email from people just looking to sell silver for scrap, I will wait patiently for a real customer.

tried vistaprint.ca very similar experience as .com  heavy marketing of other stuff on the way to checking out and you do have to look pretty carefully at what you click ,  see you guys monday.
