hey!

besides writing for iCraft, i'm always trying to learn how to paint better... usually i get as far as mixing the colours together and staring blankly at the canvas, but i digress :S
haha

i'm thinking of investing in some new brushes though, and knowing little about this whole world, i don't know which brands to trust.  i'm working with acrylics, on small-medium canvases... any suggestions?

thanks!! Cheesy

When I was enjoying my airbrushing years, I used mostly Liquitex paints.  You can buy them at any local hobby store.  I used the fat little bottles by them.  What's nice about them in airbrushing usage is that with a little thinner, they have nice flow.  That's VITAL in airbrushing, but translating it to canvas, obviously that would be a nice feature too.  They're affordable and come in lots of colors.  But I always found mixing my own colors was the best way to go.

Another brand that is absolutely amazing is Jo Sonya.  Pricier, but Jo Sonya paints are VELVET!!!  Seriously, they have this gorgeous soft velvety finish that I haven't seen anywhere else.  These are tube paints and will be thicker than the Liquitex bottled paint.  So in my application, I had to thin them quite a bit, but you may be able to use them straight out of the tube.

One other little tidbit... Createx Pearl Powders.... they come in a lot of colors, but they're all shimmery, sparkly or pearlized... and they're beautiful!!  Add a little of this to your paint and get a beautiful effect!

Hope this helps a bit.  Smiley

I love these Soft Grip brushes.  It says watercolor but they are great for acrylics.  Also available at DickBlick.com
