Alright!  I think I have a light day today!  Whew, I need to create!  I took the day off work, because I had so much blogging to do.  Stayed up way late last night!  I love to blog, but do you think it's taking over my life?  Hope I'm not to wordy for y'all...

1) interview - done

2) I already have icraft on my signature (actually, I have ALL my URLs on my sig), but moved it to the top, since it's smaller than some other URLs.  For those using gmail (like me), your signature can be changed at "settings" on the top right.

3) business cards!  I switched to postcards, for my business card.  I should have put my domain name (instead of Etsy shop URL) on it, but everything is still correct.  A friend suggested postcards, because they're more useful and attractive, and I agree.  And if people like how they look, and place them on their refrigerators, it's free advertising!  How's that for forward thinking!  I think my next postcard will have a variety of handmade journals on it, like Christine suggests.  Picasa, a free photo storage and editing software from Google, makes real nice collages - here's a collage I used in my latest in my carnival post: http://www.storybeader.com/2009/11/etsybloggers-carnival-november-6-2009.html

4) product tags.  This might sound confusing, but I'll try to explain.  First of all, I write a haiku for each necklace and book.  The book is easy, I glue a little piece of paper with the haiku on the inside of each book.  On the signature wraps, I punch a hole with a holepuncher {:-D, and put the price on that.  WHEN I sell one, I’ll include my postcard!  For the necklaces,  I've just started something new.  I take a piece of paper, approx. 1" x 3", and glue a picture of the item on one side, and the haiku on the other.  Then I write the price on another tag, so if the piece is a present, the gift-giver can take off the price tag, and the haiku can still reached the recipient of the present.  I know my presentation needs help, but it’s been hard to fit my big necklaces in boxes.  I just bought some neat looking boxes at Hobby Lobby - here’s something about presentation on my blog, BTW {:-D

I did my interview this morning, actually got up early to finish it before work.

I use gmail, and I have a signature that automatically posts to ALL my emails that has all my links to it.  I rarely use yahoo, but I have the same thing set up there too.

I wanted something different for business cards, esp. since I also do photography.  I have ordered from both Moo.com and www.MyMiniCards.com.  I love them both!  You get a lot for your money, something like 100 individiually customizable mini cards for under $20.00.  I went with them because for each you can upload your own images, and you can upload a different image for each card if you want.  I get a LOT of interest with my cards because they either have one of my own photographs or a picture of a piece of my own jewelry on the front, and they're all different.  One of those sites, I don't remember which one, allows you to upload your own logo to the back of the card where the text is, so I have the pic of my 'square eye' on them.  I have several posters with my photography on them at my office, so I keep a lot of mini cards around the place, ready to hand out at a moment's notice!

lol.... WHEEZI I am sure you are not a slacker.  Great interview!  I can see we have lots in common!

I am going to ask you a favour here so everyone can figure this out too.  Your assignment 2 is in day 3 thread. That's ok to leave it here but is easier for linda and i if you copy it over to "Day 2 What Happened" as we are taking an "attendance" everyday AND these Bios and Interviews need to be easy for us to find because we will be using them in blogs and we DEFINATELY WANT TO FIND YOU WHEN WE NEED YOUR INFO.

Theres two ways of moving your postings to the right day
1) Just copy and paste it into the new/correct thread.  It's ok if it is in print twice.
2) you can go back and EDIT a post using the edit button on the right hand side of your post (I think that is where it is). I think you can totally delete the message and then paste a copy in the right place or you can edit a post because  you missed putting a link in or spelled something wrong or whatever.

icraft has some remarkably powerful tools in their forums.  We are lucky!!! I sometimes try and clean my posts up with edits because I know that potentially 100's and 100's of people are going to read what we are writing.

We are making seller's online history in our Bootcamps.  Their is NOTHING LIKE OUR BOOTCAMP OUT THERE RIGHT NOW and especially at this price... grin grin.  so everyone stand up and applause yourself Smiley

A few others have talked about Vista

another one is Moo

another one you have just mentioned is 123 Print

I have my PillowThrowDecor Business Cards but I also have my main business  Just For Looks Custom Drapery.  Need to figure out a way to have them both on one card so I can double my exposure for my online store.  May experiment using one of these three online stores but must have customizable... hmmm.

Need to do this today so I get my homework done too Smiley

I like the idea of using one side of a business card for each business.  You never know when the extra exposure is going to get you a sale.  I have multiple web addresses on my mini-cards just in case!  Cheesy

I use uprinting.com and pay around $35 for Full colour two sided cards...We tried the free vista print cards and they were not nearly as nice as the ones we get with this company.  One side is all photograph of one of our tiaras and the other side has one of my best ear cuff photos (on an ear;) along with our names, city & state, web address, email address.  I chose NOT to put a phone number on because we vend at renfaires and give out hundreds of cards per festival so who knows who would have your number!! I do have plenty of space on the info side to write it in personally if I need to give it to someone;-)

One thing I have seen with a lot of people's cards- even if you have a great logo, its still nice to be sure to have at least one photo of your actual work- that way people remember what you do more specifically..this is especially helpful if you are giving things out at a big event where people are likely to have picked up a lot of cards during their visit!

For branding on my items themselves, most of my jewelry ships in boxes and I have labels that I stick there and inside the box with my basic portal website (www.thyme2dream.com) listed on each.

The next thing I am working on is a simple self published catalog to have at shows- not one to hand out, but more of a portfolio type catalog to custom order options available to show people who are thinking about weddings, etc...I plan also to use this when I get ready to approach brick and mortar shops about carrying my stuff as well- but that's a ways down the road yet Smiley

One note about Uprinting.com -they are customizable- you can design your own card on a blank template, or even just upload camera ready artwork on one or both sides ....and MUCH cheaper than moo- even tho I love the minis from Moo, they are just too expensive for the amount of cards we hand out during festival season.

Yay, a light day!

My interview is posted in Day 2.  By the way, I was recently interviewed here:
http://calebandemilydesigns.blogspot.com/2009/10/interview-with-lisa-topps-of.html

I print my own business cards with my quilled dragon's head.  He was my prototype and I love him.  I've often wondered if I should use something more recognizable and more pleasantly coloured, but this one is just me.

I do need to print more though!

I did make moo cards once.  Never again.  It was a waste for me.

Post cards, now that is a good idea.  I may go to the office supply store and see if they have any print-your-own ones.  If anyone is familiar with Etsy, you can make a post card layout of your products using the "Etsy Mini".  This is also the thing you post on your blogs which is equivalent to the iCraft widget.  Does iCraft have one that you can print out?  Or only a widget?  Anyone know?

Signatures: check. Business cards: check... but I don't much like them. The print is too small (watch out for that when you're ordering online!). Thanks Linda for the link, I may try out the free uploadable image deal...

Tonight I'm working on a new blanket. Adding inventory is one of my main goals for this month.

I'll also spend some time on packaging... Positive thinking!... I WILL need those tags, I WILL need those tags!!

1)Finish your interview answers and post on yesterday's forum.
~~DONE

2) Add your automatic icraft store signature to every email in Outlook or Outlook express.
~~DONE

3) Get your business cards ready.
~~I got MOO cards recently - they are cute but not sure I will order again. Too small - afraid they will get lost in the shuffle and your photography has to be very good. They print dark (even tho my photos seem "light" to me).
~~I am going to get these FREE cards and upload my own design:
http://bit.ly/Nn25d

4) For those of you that have business cards already what about product tags that can be pinned or tied to your product?
~~Love the idea of a tiny card to attach to product. I am going to design some.
~~Postcards - have not gotten them printed yet but I designed some - take a look:

Hi all,

My interview is posted on Day 2....that was a challenge, but good thinking!

Signature line...check!

Business cards....have them, still quite a few left, will make some modifications next time I order.

Tags....hmmm...tried a digital scrapbooking type but that will be time consuming.  I like the idea of 2 tags, one with the price, and one for gift giving.  They need to be easily removable, if you need to retake photos or something, but attractive.  Still working on this one...

...on to Day 4!

Wow this site here http://bit.ly/Nn25d that you recommended is amazing!!!

I designed mine...very customizable (had to trick some of the spaces) and very professional... I just ordered 3000 glossies for less than 25% of what I would have normally paid my printer here.  I am so excited.... now everyone that walks by my table is going to get one!  I am hoping they will arrive before my first show on Nov. 13. eeks!

And your postcard layouts are just amazing!!!!
May I ask which site did you use for design  or which program?
Where you going to have them printed?

Really good info and thanks ever so much for the quick links.

I did think about this but need to keep pillow clients and drapery clients a little bit separate. The cost of a custom pillows can easily be more than twice of what mine are in my pillow store... has to do with fabric cost (often huge $$$) pattern matching, lining, specific sizes, separate cutting and a whole bunch of things. I often give them the opportunity to see if there is something they can "pick up off of my shelves". No... they want very specific and most don't mind paying the price... a few hope to get theirs at the "off the shelf price".  No can do.  I have to be careful not to confuse my clients.  I am sure it is like that for everybody.

I stick my business cards on my packaging to ship in the "FROM" area...would be nice to have them in sticker form rather than wide tape. Good idea.

Also would love to hear about your catalogue... can you give us  an idea which program or a brief how to?

Hey Cats,

I missed a day but I think I'm all caught up now.  I have all shops/sites in my email sig, I have biz cards & little tags to tie onto samples etc... I also have spent a lot of time developing labels that are really in keeping with the brand (ingredients are listed inside the blue tub from my logo... without the flowers).

I am going to look into the links provided and try something new with my biz card design.  I also love the idea of post cards, or other "useful" promotional pieces.

Lovin' all this sharing!

Hi all, I have business cards but will probably get another set , can't have too many, I send them with a thankyou with my orders. I have tweeted over 500 times, well that is a bit and have cloned a few items , I listed new items last weekend and will have to wait till this weekend to make more. I have used the #icraft on my tweets. I have been faithfully blogging since June 09 and have featured The Storybeader tonight on my blog as well as mentioning the bootcamp experience. I still need to do the interview and post but will work on that as soon as I finish my day job work. It appears work never ends but marketing is a good idea, Tweeting really does increase your page views and who knows maybe someone is watching your shop for holiday ideas. chow! Laura

Well this will have me caught up, I already have my signature on my emails and the kids.  Also we mainly use Vista Print or 123ink for cards, we give out alot so free is the best price.

I use Vista Print postcards to make my jewelry cards, I learned this online and will post the link when I get back from work today.  each postcard makes 4 jewelry cards, they are coated which helps with bad weather days and I can hang them (use a product from www.gemsondisplay.com ) and just lay them down if it is windy.

Added on Thursday:  I realized that I get the earring card adapters, from Rio Grande not Gems on Display, sorry for the inconvenience, tough week for me, here is the link for the adaptors: http://www.riogrande.com/MemberArea/ProductPage.aspx?assetName=40553837

Also here is the link for the idea that got me started with my earring cards, I also use business cards to mount all my pendants, on its great when someone buys a piece they automatically have my card with
the piece.

We print the labels for Zac's Zoaps and all our business are branded.  I like the idea of printing on each side of the card, great for two or more business folk.

I like the interview on blog idea and will post one today and work on the tweeting, when I get home (I have a funeral at the church today) so that may not happen, but I like to be hopeful

Christine,

Sorry about that, I have corrected my original post.   But here is the information about the earring card adaptors.  (Added on Thursday: I realized that I get the earring card adapters, from Rio Grande not Gems on Display, sorry for the inconvenience, tough week for me, here is the link for the adaptors: http://www.riogrande.com/MemberArea/ProductPage.aspx?assetName=40553837

I can't find the link I used to learn this technique.  I will write it up and put it on my blog, but this probably won't happen till Saturday

Some really good info being shared here!

I'm still working on my interview - that was a tough assignment for me!

I already have my shop link in my signature - also have links to website, other online shops, twitter and facebook fan page.  Do you think that is overkill?

I have business cards which I print myself because I still haven't worked out a design that I like.  It's difficult to find a design that will feature both my art and my jewellery.  The idea of printing one on each side of the card is intriguing and I will play around with that.  I also have the moo mini cards which I love.  I save them for special customers and collectors because they are more expensive than regular cards, but they are gorgeous.  I have many different images of my work, both art and jewellery, so I can sort of customize the card to the client.
I just read a blog post this a.m. about this subject:
http://johntunger.typepad.com/studio/2006/04/business_cards_.html
I thought it was interesting.

I also already have hang tags for my jewellery pieces.  For my art work I usually include a business card, either attached on the back, or in the package.  Of course it is always signed by me as well!  I also give a certificate of authenticity with each original piece.  This has my name, my studio name and contact info on it.
The thought just occured to me that a c. of a. might be  a good thing to attach to, or include with, a larger, unique piece of jewellery?

I do have to work a bit more on being more consistant with my branding.  It is still a work in progress and is slowly coming together.

I like the postcard idea.  I've also thought about making fridge magnets with an image of my work and include my website address on there.  I sell ACEO's which would fit into this idea very well.  A little piece of art that can be displayed, and promote me as well.

Well, I'm slowly catching up - will post my interview shortly.

Hello! I change the look of my business cards often.
This is one I am currently using:
http://www.weezi.com/static/big_pics/busines%20card.html

the next time I have them made I will use a photo that my brother took instead.
I don't list etsy and i.craft on my card in the store b/c i want people to buy on site...in person in my store.

I suppose I could change this existing card to show only my online avenues other then weezi.com..not sure about this.
When I hand out my my card in person I am trying to get people to come and see me person.

OH, what about an online business card?Huh?..which I later added to the same page. http://www.weezi.com/static/big_pics/busines%20card.html
I could use this card online during chats etc???

Good idea or bad?Huh

Open to any suggestions! thanx! Lisa Smiley

Ps. I have my done by a local "mom and pop" printing store downtown.

Hi everyone!

. I love Moo cards http://us.moo.com/en ! I really like the fact that you can put pictures of you own designs on them and they look so profesional! They have tons of ideas on their site http://us.moo.com/en/ideas that may inspire you, wether to create earrings holders cards or bookmarks to include with your orders.

. I really like the "postcard" idea that was suggested, showing 12 designs, for potential buyers to grab and will work on that for sure Smiley

. Branding: Another way to personalize your items and jewelry is to add a jewelry tag. You can do them yourself http://www.infinitystamps.com/jewelry_tags.htm  or have them made for you http://www.charmfactory.com/engravedtags.aspx . I gave the links as examples only. Do a little replacement to find more options.

Have a great day everyone!!
