Did you know that Cambridge Galleries are super into textiles? Hosts of the annual Fibreworks juried art exhibition, Cambridge Galleries frequently features exhibitions of Canadian textile artists (notably Lyn Carter and Anna Torma) and also have an very impressive amount of contemporary textile work in their permanent collection. Catch a glimpse of some of their collection in the exhibition Select Works, opening this Tuesday. A good excuse for a road trip!

Opening Reception: Tuesday, January 24, 6:30 pm
Remarks: 7 pm
January 24 – February 19, 2012

An opportunity to view selected works from Cambridge Galleries’ extensive collection of contemporary Canadian textile-based art. The collection was conceived to pay homage to the region’s textile manufacturing heritage, and to provide a public forum for exceptional textile based work by artists from across the country.

This annual exhibition provides an excellent overview of Cambridge Galleries’ collecting activity over nearly 24 years, and demonstrates the diversity and ingenuity of Canadian artists. Works from the collection are frequently loaned to other art galleries across the country and beyond, however, only once a year at Design at Riverside, is there an opportunity to present larger groupings of related or thematic works here at home in Cambridge. In each subsequent year we build greater awareness of the collection and the artists whose work is represented.

GALLERY HOURS:
Tuesday to Thursday: 12 noon – 8:00 pm,
Friday & Saturday: 12 noon – 5:30 pm, Sunday: 1 pm – 5 pm
