As a young girl growing up in China, Sylvia was introduced to the healing powers of gemstones by her grandmother, who would present Sylvia with jade stones when she was sick. In an uncanny and mysterious way the jade would always have a very positive effect in minimizing the uncomfortable symptoms. This intrigued Sylvia as she began studying the science behind this ancient art. Since the beginning of time gemstones were used to heal all kinds of physical as well as psychological imbalances. By keeping these stones close to oneself the healing energy from the stones would permeate the energy-field of their bearer, bringing back to balance any distortions in that individual’s aura. This science could be found across cultures from all over the globe. Sylvia then began researching the many different kinds of gemstones and each stone’s unique healing properties. Then one day, in a moment of pure intuition, Sylvia realized her calling. She could combine her love of creating hand-made jewelry with the healing power of the stones to create trans-formative jewelry that would serve an aesthetic purpose as well as a spiritual one. Sylvia could participate in the art that she cherished while simultaneously helping to spread positive energy in the form of gemstones. With this idea in mind Sylvia created S.J. Handcrafts in 2019. Her mission is to help soothe people, to bring people together in a fragmented world through the healing power of the gemstones. Sylvia believes deeply in this mission and hopes to spread her jewelry and the positive effects it brings through all communities.
