Handmade Store: Handmade by Catkin
Handmade by Catkin was born from a daughter and mother team who found themselves in a situation where there's only so many things you can knit or make for the people we loved before there were just too many things we wanted to make.
Catkin is the nickname Caitlin was given to her by her family during her childhood. The name reflects the family nature of the store and its members.
Our need to craft and create was only further consolidated during recent times when there hasn't been much else we could do.
With over 80 years of knitting and crochet experience between us, as well as many years in other crafts and arts, we use our skills to realise all the ideas in our heads.
Crafts provide the mental break from chronic health conditions needed to stay sane.
And while often being housebound, being able to connect with new people through the things we have created with our own hands is the most rewarding experience of all.
We upcycle and use existing materials when possible. Our materials include a mix of vintage and contemporary yarns, buttons, beads, etc. Our crafts are mindful of sustainability and environmental impact. We create meaningful and useful items, including clothing, hats and accessories, jewellery, and a myriad of craft notions for fellow knitters and crocheters, and yarn lovers alike. The yarns we sell are hand dyed using non-toxic fibre reactive dyes and set with natural setting agents. We support Australian Mills for the base yarns we use.
We use our own notions and stitch markers in our knitting and crochet- so we make things we love to use ourselves!
