Linda, I'm just wondering what the disadvantage is of having too many/the wrong kind of followers? I just figure the more the merrier...?
Because, I think it is like standing in the Wal-Mart parking lot trying to sell a $18,000 necklace. That is just not my target market.
If my own twitter stream is clogged with spammers, I have less chance to interact with my target market, which is what I want to do - tweet to them, engage in short conversations.....connect in some way.
I know my target market is really working women and those who like handmade. So, I am getting rid of the clutter to include mostly those.
I started gathering handmade followers and now am starting to gather (non-handmade community) working women, business women. At least I know when I tweet, it will fall on the ears of this demographic.
Spammers are not going to be interested in jewelry - they just want numbers and could care less about any of us - that is mainly why I look at profiles first. And I find A LOT of spammers or call girl type stuff under innocent looking avatars...lol!
I don't follow back the spammers and I block the other questionable ones. Sometimes I purge my followers and unfollow those who have not followed me after months - even if they are my target market. They are "just not into me" lol!
This morning I Have 2521 followers but I am following 2732 - there is a +/- 200 difference that I hope will follow me. If not, in a month or so, I will unfollow.
Well, hope this makes sense. It is not the only way to look at it and you are not hurting anything by doing what you are doing.
Just have fun with Twitter and engage people. That is what it is all about.
