Day 2 Assignment Wednesday, May 20, 2009

1) Craigslist – Post at least one free ad . Use your icraft store address where allowable. Remember to avoid spam by making your contact email like this …PillowThrowDecor (at) gmail (dot) com. By the way I don’t think Craigslist allows your store address  as a live link in your ad… so be subtle about being an online seller. Invite people to email you  directly.

2)Create a new listing in your store. If you don’t have any new product to list then let’s work on one of your existing ones. Pick the worst one and “clone it” (This recreates it as a “new Listing “ and therefore will go to the front page. Go through that listing line by line and improve your copy. How about your tags? Are your words relevant? Retake some pictures . Once you are finished, submit it and then go back to delete that original listing. Go to our Bootcamp critique thread in the othr forum and line up to have your store evaluated. Or go to our photography expert Sarah and have her look at your pictures or picture (include url for specific pictures).  You can also post your store questions/critique here and some of us will give you a report.

3)After you have created your “new listing” you are going to Twitter about it. Go to the lower left hand corner of a listing page and click on the little “Bookmark” button and look for Twitter. Click on that and it will take you through the process. Write something interesting about how your  new item might be useful and include the URL.

4) Add 50 names of people you want to “follow”.  Go to http://www.twibes.com/group/iCraft?id=1169755 which is the icraft directory on twitter and sign up and follow everyone else in the icraft directory. Icraft is in the commerce directory http://www.twibes.com/category/business-ecommerce. Look for other people who are likely to share the same interests as you and follow them too.  Don’t go overboard (like I did) and add too many at once or people will worry about you being a spammer. If you have a chance go to two other sellers sites and repeat the process of going to one of their products and click on the bookmark button to tweet something interesting about that item.  Tomorrow we will investigate tweetdeck… a Twitter application that makes handling tweets easier (in some ways) http://tweetdeck.com

5) Get your business cards out and explain to your family that you need their help getting your cards out there. Put 3 cards in husband’s wallet, wife’s purse, children’s lunchbox. YOUR FAMILY IS YOUR BEST SALESTEAM… REWARD THEM RICHLY WHEN THEY BRING A LEAD HOME FOR YOU.  Think of some creative ways that you can get your business cards out in your community.  For those of you that don’t have business cards yet you may want to talk to PolkaDotPixels.com.  She’s listed as our first Bootcamp sponser. Julie does fantastic work.  She will be offering a giveaway which you will hear more about tomorrow.

6) Post everything that you get done and any comments in the Bootcamp What Happened thread right after this one… bragging is allowed.
