Product Voting System - Feedback Required!

Hi iCrafters!
We need your input on a feature we are thinking about introducing - but we won't do so unless we hear overwhelming support for it.

As a Creator, would you see value in having a "voting" system for products? Imagine it as a "5 star" scenario, where upon reviewing a product, visitors would be able to vote on it. We would have various attributes which people could vote on, such as creativity, uniqueness, quality, etc.

We think this feature would be useful for Creators - the feedback generated could help you in determining which products in your inventory are getting the most positive praise vs. those which get little / not-so-great interest. This could help you manage your Creator Exhibit more efficiently. The results of the votes would be public, and displayed on each product's page.

If this feature becomes introduced, it will have to be across the entire platform, for ALL Creators. We want to avoid having a situation where some Creators opt to have it, while others don't. It will look too inconsistent from page to page for site users.

Your feedback is important - let us know if you would like this feature developed for the site, or your views against having it. Either way, we look forward to hearing your input! Thanks so much, and happy crafting  Smiley

I think this is an interesting idea.  I, for one, would be interested in the feedback and to see what people like and don't like about my items.

I like the idea, it would give the sellers a better idea  if they have the right product mix on there site.

I definitely like the idea of getting feedback - but would this be seen by all viewers or just by the creator? I'm a little worried about buyers being affected by possible negative views and I would hate to see art and craft work become a "contest." Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the concept - I'll be very interested to hear all views on this!  Thanks for bringing this up.

Maybe call it rating a product instead of voting?  That way it doesn't sound so much like a contest with winners and losers.  I really like the idea as I am very interested in seeing what buyers think of products and what they like and dislike.  It may not change what I make but it may change who my target market is and if something is very popular I may decide to variations of that item.  I think this would be an excellent idea.

I like the idea, provided they don't believe they have to BUY the product to review it.   Otherwise with one of a kind items it defeats the purpose!

I think you would have be careful with the wording of it.   Rating could sound a bit harsh (depending on how it was worded), voting sounds like a contest.  Maybe a simple "what do you think of this product?" or "give your opinion on this product" or something similar/along those lines?  Remember that you are dealing with people from numerous countries so it has to be easy to understand.

There would also have to be the option of removing inappropriate (eg. abusive/rude/attacking) comments (if comments were to be allowed).

I think feedback is definitely a good idea, but I agree with Beadlam that it could be harmful if viewable by potential buyers.

I agree with the concept of feedback and a star system sounds good also.  There are of course always negatives, but I think the positives out way the negs for this.  But I do think that potential buyers could be swayed either way (good or bad) by other people's opinions.  Something to consider ...

In My Opinion, if you were to implement this feature as a tool for creators to better understand what others think about their products, then I see no really need for others (besides the creator) to view the stats or results.  YAH to the overall idea, but NAY to public viewing.

Just My Two Cents : )

I think I would like to see the votes (ratings) done by our peers only (ie) other creators on here. No identities should be available and there should be a comment line. If people are honest then it should give us a clear idea of what is and what won't work.

Just my humble opinion.

I like the idea. It would be very helpful to me. I like the idea someone has mentioned about a comment line as well.

I would like this idea if only the creator could see it. The only thing I worry about, if it was publicly seen is: What if you have a (childish) competitor that rated everything bad just to make your products look bad.
