How Digital Photography Has Changed Our Relationship with Photos

We all struggle with organizing and preserving the photos we are taking daily, but do we really value them? I think photos increase in value as time goes by. I love #photography and have thousands of photos from different trips and special occasions and often when I look back, I forget I even took those photos. I wish I had a better system for organizing them.

My 20,000 photographs are just a drop in the vast ocean of images we use to crystallize our memories and communicate with one another. They represent half of my life, preserving moments that fade from memory—and they feel anything but secure. They are far fewer than the hundreds of millions of images uploaded to Facebook every day and infinitesimal compared to the estimated 1 trillion photos taken in the world in a year. We are taking more photos than ever today, but do we really value them?

Of course we don't value photos as much anymore because we have so many of them. I only have one photo of my great grandmother and it's super valuable, but is has cracks now and it's changing color. It won't last long. How to preserve old photos? I am curious to know what others do.
