combined shipping rating

when in listing, what exactly does combined rating mean in shipping?

Combined shipping means if the customer bought 2 items they do not have to pay full shipping price for the second item.  The combined rate is how much more for the 2nd and 3rd items.   For example   your shipping is $3.00   and for the 2nd item or combined shipping is $1.00  therefore your total to ship 2 items is $4.oo
