Handmade Store: Becky Rae

I was inspired by my grandmother and mother when I was growing up. My mom made clothes for my sister and me, often the same style dress in 2 different colors. We always dressed up for church in dresses and coats that my mom had made for us.

My grandmother did upholstery and often made us purses and things that she designed herself. I started making my own clothes when I was about 10 or 11. When I took home ec. in school, I already knew how to sew, so I helped the other kids. My teacher taught me how to hand stitch a zipper into a nice garment when I was about 12. I continued sewing my own clothes and clothes for my family over the years. I made my daughter's wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses.

In addition to quilting and sewing for my kids and grandkids now, I also like to make home decorator items, like pillows and Roman shades.

I love to sew and teach sewing to kids and adults. As long as I am able, I will continue to make things and dream about my next creation.
