This is a fascinating story of the now-iconic Vivian Maier, who worked all her life as a nanny and died in 2009, alone and penniless, before anybody recognized her prowess as a street photographer.

There is a documentary called "Finding Vivian Maier" that looks at her strange and riveting life  as a nanny and a street photographer. She was unknown during her life and is now considered one of the 20th century’s greatest photographers.

She secretly took over 100,000 photographs that were hidden in the storage lockers and, discovered decades later in 2007 at a local thrift auction house on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

Too bad that she didn't see any recognition of her talent during her life.

Vivian became poor later in life and was ultimately saved by three of the children she had nannied for before. Fondly remembering Maier as a second mother, they pooled together to pay for an apartment and took care of her.

The Vivian Maier story, her talent and the surrounding vultures fighting over the ever increasing value of her work, the legal battle that threatens to pull Vivian Maier’s work from the public eye for years is quite sad actually.
