Years ago I would go to town on Saturdays with my dad. The old men in town would gather on the sidewalks of town, trade knifes and carve on wooden sticks. Some of the older men would be using walking sticks or canes. The most usual walking sticks were the Curled Walking Sticks.
Please note the sticks shown in the picture are typical Curled Walking Sticks and will not be the stick you recieve when you order. I will make every attempt to select a walking sticks as close as possible to walking sticks shown in picture.
Honey Suckle grows around small trees, as the tree grows the honey suckle causes to the tree to twist and curl. After ten or twelve years the stick can be made into a Curled Walking Stick. The trees and vines often grow along old fence rows and in fields that are no longer being used for crops. Lots of searching and many miles of walking are needed to find just the right sticks to make the walking sticks.
The sticks are cut in coldest days of winter and allowed to dry in the barn loft for nearly two years, before being made into Curled Walking Sticks or canes. Each walking stick can be sized to fit each person's needs. If you purchase a Curled Walking Stick, no one else will have a walking stick like yours, because no two are the same.
Please contact me if you would like anything special done to your walking stick.
